Facilities

Crucial to the Honors College Program is the sense of community which grows from the Honors College Residence and Academic Center, which contains seminar rooms; faculty offices; the offices of the Deans and the Academic Director; living suites and rooms for faculty and students; special activity rooms for music performance, rehearsal and discussion; lounges; a study; and a computer room.

Thoughts from Previous Students

"Upon my arrival at Adelphi, I was struck by the friendliness and helpfulness of the faculty and staff. People at Adelphi were calling me by name even before I was certain of who they were. The atmosphere at Adelphi is still as inviting as the day I arrived, and that can be especially important when you're quite far from home. During my senior year Professor Rizopoulos, the Honors College Thesis Director, became my best friend!"

Mitzi Durel, Class of 1999.

While at Adelphi Mitzi served as the resident assistant in the Honors residential suites. Her dance studies included a semester in Paris.

Seminar rooms.
Honors College classes involve the students actively right from the start. In order to encourage lively discussion each Honors College classroom is furnished with a seminar table and chairs rather than with rows of desks. The Honors class, intense and involving, quickly becomes a central part of the Honors experience.

Dormitory rooms and suites.
About 100 of the Honors students choose to live in Earle Hall on the three floors above the Offices and Seminar rooms. These floors include a number of suites for the Honors College students as well as the more traditional double rooms.

Computer and study facilities.
Both the first floor and the lower level of the Honors facility offer students areas for studying and computer use. The first floor computer laboratory is designed for advanced graphic work, while the lower level computer area features Macintosh and PC workstations at which students can write and do research. Both levels include study rooms that are comfortably furnished to provide students the opportunity to read and think, day and night. All of these rooms foster contact among the students and promote learning and growth through the interchange of ideas and insights.
