Advanced Seminars

The focus of social science and liberal arts seminars becomes more specific than the core courses. Students can choose from a wide variety of different special topics developed by professors according to research interests.

The faculty teaching these seminars come from across Adelphi, but unlike many traditional classes, these seminars incorporate cutting-edge topics, methods, and teaching practices. In these seminars, our students realize that they are not simply learning facts but actively constructing the future of a field or dismantling disciplinary silos.

Recent and upcoming seminar topics include:

  • Class and Culture in American Society
  • Written on the Body: History and Art of Tattoos
  • Theories of Justice
  • Domestic Politics: The Public Life of the Private Sphere
  • Literature of Synthetic Life and Artificial Worlds

  • “My favorite thing about Honors courses is the high level of engagement between students and the professor. It is simply pure fun to get to share your ideas with a classroom full of people eager to listen, discuss, and interact with one another. The Honors College has allowed me to be braver and more confident in classes both inside and outside of the Honors College.”
