Incoming First-Year Students

Set the bar high.

Acceptance into Honors College is based on intellectual potential, as well as on past achievement. To apply, students should complete the Honors portion of Adelphi’s admission form and supply evidence of your best academic or creative writing.

The Admissions Committee bases acceptance into the College on a wide range of criteria. It looks specifically for candidates who have shown to be intellectually inquisitive and high achieving in high school. The initial screening criteria includes*:

  • Class rank
  • Cumulative GPA
  • SAT score: On average, a combined score of 1300, with a minimum of 670 on the evidence-based reading and writing section
  • ACT score: A minimum score of 29 and must include the writing section

Promising applicants must interview with the dean, associate dean and an Honors College professor, which gives the applicant a chance to learn more about the College and the opportunity to describe their own intellectual achievements and interests. The interview is also an important factor in the final admissions and scholarship decision.**

*No single factor is decisive.
**The interview can be done over the phone if distance becomes restrictive.
